Product Description
Check your byelaw for the right size.
Escape gaps were introduced by MAFF in 1972 following success in helping regenerate the USA lobster industry. Dave Cowburn on Jersey helped create the first byelaw and we began commercial production in 1985. Whether its law or not, escapes make sense. They let undersize exit the creel but remain in their territory. They dont get predated when thrown back and they dont get cannibalised when stuck in a creel. They also speed up sorting. What's in the creel will mostly be measure. Fitted in conjunction with biodegradable breakaways, the escape eventually opens allowing fish in a lost creel to escape.
Worried about losing Velvets? More frequent hauling and plenty of bait to keep them busy or put a tie across the gap to reduce it, if permissible and if targetting Velvets specifically.
Attach with twine or cable ties 200 x 4.8mm.
